Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Wysem.

User Account
How do I change my password?

Go to Settings → Change Password. You'll need to enter your current password to verify it's really you before setting a new one.

How do I enable two-factor authentication?

Settings → Two-Factor Authentication → Enable 2FA. Scan the QR code with Google Authenticator (or any TOTP app like Authy, 1Password, Microsoft Authenticator), then enter the 6-digit code shown to confirm. After enabling, you'll need to enter a code from your app every time you sign in.

What happens if I lose my authenticator app?

You may be locked out. Always enable cloud backup in your authenticator app (Google Authenticator has this in Settings). If you do lose access, contact support — your 2FA factor can be manually removed from the Supabase backend so you can re-enroll.

How do I change my email or delete my account?

Email: Settings → Change Email. You'll receive confirmation links at both the old and new addresses — both must be clicked to complete the change. Account deletion: contact support; deletions are permanent and cannot be undone.

Accounts & Transfers
What are accounts (wallets) in Wysem?

Accounts are the places your money lives — cash, a debit card, a bank account, a credit card, and more. The dashboard shows one card per account, each with its own balance and currency, and every transaction is tied to the account it came from. You can add, rename, set an opening balance for, or archive each account.

How do I move money between accounts?

Tap the Transfer button on the dashboard, choose the source and destination accounts, and enter the amount. If the two accounts use different currencies, Wysem converts at the current rate and records both sides. Transfers appear in your transaction log as a ⇄ Transfer row and in the Recent transfers list.

How do I pay off a credit card?

On a credit card's dashboard card, tap Pay Card, choose which account to pay from, and enter the amount. Wysem records it as a transfer from that account to the card (converting currency if needed) and reduces the balance owed. It appears in your transaction log like any other transfer.

How is my net worth calculated?

Net worth adds up the balances of all your accounts — converting each to your base currency at current rates — and subtracts what you owe on credit cards. It updates live as you add transactions, transfers, or accounts.

What's the bar shown on my credit card?

That's your credit utilization — how much of the card's limit you're currently using. It shows green when low, amber as it rises, and red near the limit, as a quick health check. Set the card's limit when you add or edit the card.

Settings & Preferences
How do I change the base currency?

Settings → Global Application Settings → Base Currency. All your transactions are stored in their original currency and converted to the base for display. Changing the base re-displays everything in the new currency using live exchange rates.

How do I change the language or time format?

Settings → Language Selector for the interface language (English, Traditional Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia). Time Format Selector switches between 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. Both preferences sync across your signed-in devices.

Data & Sync
Is my financial data encrypted?

Transaction descriptions and memo notes are encrypted in your browser using AES-256-GCM before being sent to our servers, and are stored as encrypted blobs. Other transaction fields (amount, currency, category, date, account) are stored in standard form so the app can power your charts, balances, and budgets. Your data lives on a managed cloud database (Supabase), like most modern apps. Database access is reserved strictly for legitimate technical reasons: debugging an issue you've reported, performing backups, or responding to a security incident.

How does sync work across my devices?

When you sign in on any device, Wysem fetches your data from our cloud, decrypts your transaction memos locally, and displays everything. Changes you make sync back automatically. You can be signed in on multiple devices at once — they'll stay in sync within seconds.

What if I'm offline? Will I lose my changes?

Most actions need a connection to save permanently. If you go offline mid-session, the page may show stale data. We recommend reloading once your connection is back. Critical sync issues will show a notification banner.

Analytics & Charts
How do I see my spending breakdown?

The Dashboard shows two main charts: the bar chart displays income vs expense over time (toggle weekly/monthly/yearly), and the pie chart shows how your spending splits across categories. Both update live as you add transactions.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Data → Download My Data and choose CSV (a re-importable backup in the same format as Import) or Excel (a formatted report). Useful for backups, tax filing, or moving your data.

Why don't my Income/Expenses totals match between the Dashboard, Budget, and Export?

They draw from the same transactions but include different things on purpose. The Dashboard's Income and Expenses cards show this month's spending and leave out credit-card payments, because paying off a card settles debt you've already recorded — counting it as new spending would double it. The Budget page and the data Export include every category and every transaction (card payments and savings-goal deposits among them), so their totals can be higher. Nothing is wrong — it's the same data viewed at different scopes.

Notifications & Security
What emails will I receive from Wysem?

Security-critical emails only: sign-in alerts (with IP and device), password changes, email changes, and 2FA method changes. You won't get marketing or newsletter emails. Security emails cannot be turned off — they exist to protect your account.

I received a sign-in alert for an unknown device. What do I do?

Treat it as a real attack until proven otherwise. Immediately: (1) Sign in to Wysem and change your password under Settings → Change Password. (2) Enable 2FA if you haven't already. (3) Rotate any other accounts that share the same password. The sign-in alert email contains the IP and country, which can help you decide if it's a real intrusion or yourself on a new device.

Transactions & Tools
How do I import transactions from a spreadsheet?

Go to Settings → Data → Import Transactions and choose a CSV file with these columns: date, type, amount, currency, category, description, notes, payment_method. Dates should be YYYY-MM-DD. Wysem skips duplicates and creates any unknown categories for you.

What are Quick Favourites?

While adding a transaction, you can save the current entry as a favourite, then tap it later to pre-fill the form with one tap — handy for frequent transactions like coffee or salary. Favourites are stored on your device, up to 12.

How do I search or filter my transactions?

On the Transactions page, use the search box to find by description, notes, category, payment method, or amount. You can also filter by type and a date range, and open More filters for category, currency, payment method, and an amount range. Reset Filter clears everything.

How do budget alerts work?

Set a budget for a category (Settings → Budgets). When a new expense pushes that category — or your total — past 80% or 100%, Wysem sends a notification. Each threshold alerts once per month, so you're not pinged on every entry.

What is the 'This month vs last month' card?

On the Dashboard, this card compares your income, expenses, and net for the current month against the previous one, showing the change in both amount and percentage, plus the spending categories that moved the most.

How is my savings goal's finish date estimated?

Each goal estimates a finish date from your recent contribution pace (roughly the last three months of deposits to that goal). Save more and the date moves sooner; if there haven't been recent deposits, the goal asks you to add one first.
